The following is from the larger stone of Richard H. Smith and has to be the most detailed writing I have ever seen on a tombstone. (The first line I can't read)... joined Captain Musgroves Company C on October 12th 1861 went to Montgomery and joined the 29th AL Regiment Co. C. under Colonel Conley Captain Musgrove was succeeded by Captain Hannah While in Camp at Mobile he left for home Sept 7 1863 arriving the 11th and was married the 13th to Miss Malinda Long. by Judge C. Gelispie(sic) Left Home the 3rd reaching his Company the 7th of Oct 1863. Was color bearer under Captain Hannah until wounded July 20, 1864. The Staff being shot out of his left hand in the battle of Peach Tree Creek near Atlanta GA. He was sent to the Hospital at Macon Ga. by J. B. Hood, his arm being amputated about three weeks later. He was then transferred to Montevallo Ala and then to his home at Nectar AL on Sept 1st where he lived until his death.
